Flowers for Friday – purple heliotrope

DSC_8327

This heliotrope caught my eye when I was choosing annuals this year, because it was so intensely purple. It was also rather tall, which appealed to me.

Unfortunately, there was a period of time where it evidently didn’t get enough water and kinda died off. You can see that some in the photo.

But I was really pleased when I went to take close-up photos and realized it had such beautifully star-shaped blossoms.

Lovely! And interesting that the one bloom has 4 petals and the rest seem to have 5.

You know, I noticed that about the four sides in one of the flowers.

In fact, when I first saw it I thought that was how all of them looked, but the second or third time I looked at the picture, I realized that most of the blooms were actually stars.
