Application is sent in

Well, my job application is officially sent in. I’m excited/relieved and nervous all at the same time. Well, not a lot nervous, just a little bit – because it is now out of my hands.

I talked to someone who is in the department yesterday. It was a bit of a fluke that this class I’m in had a panel on tenure, and someone invited a woman from the department and school where I’m applying. I asked her a few questions that helped me get a bit of an inside scoop. One of the things she mentioned is that she doesn’t think there are many applicants…
… so I’m hopeful.

She also said that the teaching example for the interview is really hard, because people are reluctant to participate in the interactive learning techniques. But she also said that they definitely don’t want someone who just lectures the whole time. So, it is necessary to use these discussion-style small group activities, even if it doesn’t go quite as well as you’d hope. All in all, very useful information.

I think this merits a celebratory Starbucks! decaf, of course. ;-)

    Congrats and Good Luck!

On an interesting note, my sister in law just got a post doc at the U of M and is moving there, right after we leave!

I hope you enjoy your Starbucks decaf. I haven’t had a coffee drink (or tea) in such a long time. Enjoy one for me. :)

Aw, celebrate the application going in with a full-caff cup, yeah? ;)

Kalki, thanks for the well wishes. :-)

Amber, thanks too. And how exciting for your sister in law.
The drink was awesome. I had a peppermint mocha – a drink I’d always been curious about, but had never tried.

Ern, thanks. I have a medical reason for avoiding caffeine. But I understand the sentiment and smile at it.

Woo hoo! Good luck on the job! I hope you enjoyed your decaf. I had a (very rare for me) Starbuck’s latte today. A “skinny” one.

I loooooove peppermint mochas! I pretend that they will only make them around the winter holidays so that I don’t drink them year round.

Congratulations on getting the application in! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you and only think in my head about how it sounds like some things are falling in place (like the woman from the panel), because if I write it out loud that could jinx it. [knock on wood] :)

Thanks Squirl for the wishes of good luck. I tried one of those skinny mochas the other month and thought that the sugar free syrup made them taste really strange. So, no go for me on those, but I’m glad that you like them.

Thanks, Jenski, for the wishes of congratulations. I keep thinking about everything falling into place too and am trying not to read to much into it. However, what I didn’t mention in my post is that I hadn’t prayed about getting a job at all, and then the morning that I did for the first time, I got the email about the job posting….

…interesting, eh? Keeps me thinking, that is for sure. And praying.
