Flowers for Friday – yellowish-pink with tiger stripes
I saw this at Wildseed Farms in TX. I don’t know what it is called, because it is not listed in the catalog of flowers that mom picked up for me while we were there. I just know them as that flower that they often put in flower bundles at the grocery store that are really hardy. I guess if they are a wildflower, that makes sense. It isn’t an azalea, is it?
Anyway, enjoy this brightener for the week. I know I had fun looking at my photos picking out a good one.

I am sure someone will come up with the actual name, but I think it is something like astramedea. I am totally butchering the spelling b/c I can’t find it on Google or I may have the name totally wrong. : )
Ern says:
I was coming to say I have no idea what they are either, but dang if they don’t last 3 weeks in the vase!
But Texas Seestor triggored my memory. Are they Astral Lilies? Or something like that? Astramedea may be the scientific name?
Squirl says:
Okay, I’m stumped. My friend, who’s taught me just about everything I know about plants, has always called these freesias. But when I google images, they look different. This is really going to bug me until I find out.
Gorgeous pics!

I am grinning over the naming problem.
I had asked my friend in the lab earlier what she thought they were and she couldn’t remember. But now that we have some possibilities, I asked her again and she thinks astramicea or something like that.

I think I found it….Astromeria. I am not positive, but the pictures I found seem to be right and Astromeria are listed as long lasting vase flowers.
Danielle says:
Is that you, squril?
Whoever it is, good searching!
Texas Seestor says:
Oops. It was Texas Seestor. Guess I forgot to type my name in all the excitement. : )
Squirl says:
Thanks! That was really bugging me to not know the name of those.
Danielle says:
Yep! I just checked Google Images and it definitely looks like Astromeria. Good work, Texas Seestor!
