Flowers for Friday – orchids
One night, HB and I needed to stop at the grocery store to pick up a couple of items for breakfast. When we went past the flowers, I couldn’t help but linger over them. He jokingly told me it was either flowers or butter (one of the items). Now, I knew we had plenty of butter at home; I was just planning to get more as a back-up. So, I quickly decided that Flowers! won.
I debated about picking out some Gebera daisies, but I saw these orchids and they were so cheap and they said “long-lasting” on the tag. And they have lived up to their promise! They’ve lasted for at least a couple of weeks and the buds just keep growing and blooming. They have been a joy.
This one reminds me of an alien mouth – it’s coming to get you – ahhhhhh!
I like this one a lot. I’m not sure why exactly. I think it has to do with the way the petals are all coming together in the background or how they look like Dumbo ears and the way the purple petal is flipped up which seems cheerier than the ones flipped down.
I spent forever trying to get a good photograph of those little spiky things on the petals. None of them turned out quite how I’d planned. But I liked this one. It reminded me of an iris or a ruffly skirt.
And this last one reminds me of a flower petal draping something so gracefully. I like the glistening/wrinkly look of it.
Hope you enjoy them too! Have a good weekend.

Very pretty pictures! I am glad that your Orchids lasted long. I was wondering how they would turn out.
Happy Friday!

Beauuuutiful pictures!!!!!! I am really impressed with your photography skills…they keep getting better and better.
Are the orchids in a flower pot? If they aren’t, ignore the rest. If they are, you should put them in your sunny front (?) window. I have an orchid that someone have me over 5 years ago. I have it in my front window which gets a lot of sun. It blooms frequently and actually has sprouted 2 other stalks which bloom periodically. I have heard they are hard to take care of, but honestly, I give it water once a week (or so) and don’t do anything else.

Great shots! I love close up shots of flowers. And this is a very pretty orchid. I hope it lasts a long time for you.
You have a great weekend, too.
Amber says:
Now see, Texas Seestor, I also heard that Orchids were really hard to take care of. I guess you two lucked out on the flowers.

Mine were cut orchids, but I had wondered how your orchid was doing, Texas Seestor. I have been debating about buying a potted one, but wasn’t sure how hard it would be to keep it alive. Glad to hear that it isn’t too hard. Maybe I’ll get one (one of these times).
And thank you everyone for the compliments on the pictures. I must’ve done 3 or 4 attempts at getting the photos the way I wanted them. I guess persistence pays off.

Wow, these are gorgeous! We had some tiger lillies bloom in our flower bed and I brought a few in and put them in a vase. And they also lasted forever! They made me happy every day.
