New Toy!
There are still several aspects of moving here that I haven’t gotten to blog about yet.
The first is about the Girlie-Girl.
The night I walked in the door, she acted very afraid of me. I don’t know if she’d given me up for dead and thought I was a ghost or if it was that I smelled like Tizer and airplane fuel. Either way, she wasn’t. too. sure. what. to. think. about. me. quite. yet.
After HB showed me a bit of the seeeekrit squirrel stuff (more about that another day), I sat on the floor and let her sniff and sniff me. And then she slowly let me pet her on the head.
Maybe. that’s. okay.
Oh but wait, maybe not. *swipe*
Okay then, we’ll just go look at more of the house and the monumental job of unpacking that HB did before I arrived. And then I sat on the couch and called her over. And she finally came over, and sniffed me, and I petted her on the head for a little bit longer than the previous time. And then she swiped at me.
And that happened one more time on the floor in the living room, the sniffing, petting, and swiping. And then FInally, she seemed to get the sniffing and swiping part out of her system.
By the next day, we were allllll friends again. I think the only time I got scratched was playing with her.
When we went to Target to buy her cat litter, we were in the cat aisle you know. So, I made sure to get her a brush to replace the one that got lost in the move and a couple new toys.
And ohhhhh does she lurve the new brush, let me tell you.
“Oh, over here, please.”
“ummmm, yeaaah, right there.”
And the new toys? Well, they are both mice. I have let her have one for now and she’ll get the other one later sometime.
“Oh! What’s this!”

“mmmmmmm… smells good.”

“And it is alllllllllllllways better when I rub the side of my face on it.”

“Geeeee, Danie, why’d you move the toy into the sun?

“You know, I kinda liked it better in the shade. Now that it is in the sun, the sun is awfully distracting, and is ever so much better than that little ol’ mouse.”

Oh, did I mention that this toy is from Fat Cat, Inc.?
Appropriate name, eh?
But shhhhh, don’t ever say the F word to her. Or she’ll get mad.
“Oh! Look! The mouse is moving! That is everrrr so much betterrrr!”

Note the claws on that left paw, which is why I’m so very carefully trying to reach for the mouse tail.

Cause when all four feet get going…. well, I’m not crazy ya know, I like my skin intact.

Wow, I bet she lovied up to you more once you got her a few new toys and a brush. All misgivings forgotten.
Seeekrit Squirrel??? Huh? Boy do I want to know. Just because it’s seeekrit and has the word squirrel in it.
Intrigued.
I am glad that GG has gotten used to you being back! Yay!
HB says:
purr purr purr purr
meeeeow-rrrr?
purr purr purr purr
jenski says:
Glad you made it safely! Sounds like Girlie-girl was a bit angry with you. Glad she got over it and talking to you again! Do you have to pick up unpacking where HB left off?
Danielle says:
Amber, i think you’ll see the seeekrit squirrel stuff before anyone else.
Jenski, as for picking up the unpacking, nooooo, not really. Well, I have another post about doing my office, which we agreed I’d do. Just wait until you see the before and after pics! And I couldn’t quite resist getting the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen tweaked. Because everytime I was in those places, my mind was busy with “now, maybe this could go over here, if it will fit. Will it fit? And it sure would be easier to get showered and ready in the morning if this drawer had all my stuff in it.”
Basically, I’d gotten awfully used to having the house look pretty perfect while it was up for sale, and my tolerance for clutter around the house is different now than it used to be *sigh*. it was so much easier when I didn’t mind being a slob.
He really has done pretty much all of the unpacking. There are only about 10-15 boxes of books, and decorative stuff left to do. The books will go fast. But I’m leaving that kind of stuff for weekends &/or maybe a bit of weeknight work. I am focusing on my thesis during the day.
HB says:
I AM A MONUMENTAL UNPACKER! WHEEE!
Now, back to creating org charts. Argh!
HB
jenski says:
Books are dangerous to unpack. There’s always that one (or two or twenty) that you want to juuuuust skim through or reread the good parts and then what do you know, you’re reading the whoooooole thing again. Good luck with that.
Happy writing! I just submitted my first grant. FUN.
LadyBug says:
Oh! Hi HB! ::waving at HB in the photos::
I LOVE that last pic, Danielle. She looks SO ready to take your hand off if you even THINK about touching her new toy.
Which reminds me…when I read the title “New Toy!”, I was just sure it would be pictures of YOUR new toy. But Girlie-Girl pictures – or better yet, a picture essay – are even better. I’m glad she warmed up to you pretty quick. And her eyes look really good. Has her little problem cleared up?
P.S. I’m pouting because Amber gets to hear about the seeekrit squirrel before the rest of us do. ::pout::
I mean, really, shouldn’t Squirl be the first to know?
Danielle says:
HB, seeeeeee now everyone can witness what I’ve known all along.
You are a beeeeg D.o.r.k.
*smooch*
Jenski, I’d heard through your old lab-mates that you were busy working on a grant. Congratulations on actually getting it completed and sent in! Does this mean you’ll be reading Snow and Ashes now? i.e. the Big White Book from Gabaldon now?
I’m putting it off until after I defend. Or I’d never do my writing.
Ladybug, i had guessed that you would notice him in those pics (which is why I left him in). Plus, it kind of gives you a sense of what our weekends are like. HB on his laptop at the table… me across the room, doing something.
I love that last pic too. There were about 5 to choose from along those lines, but I had to limit it partly on how much her butt was showing. Not exactly a flattering angle.
And yes! most of these pics are of her ‘good side’ but her eye is far far better than before. She is almost completely back to normal, in fact. We aren’t sure if she was actually allergic to something in MA, or if HB’s and my dilligence about making her wear her cone/collar when she scratched at her nose/eye paid off.
When you pout, do you stick your lower lip out? (cause I do)
No worries A., I’m just trying to come up with the best way to photograph it. It doesn’t quite lend itself to photos.
Amber says:
Danielle, I really like the “smells good” picture. It makes me smile.
And HB in the corner doing computer stuff and you off in the distance reminds me of our non-house working weekends. Me doing something else and him on the computer at the other end of the house. Go figure.
He’s really into reading the news online. Sometimes he gets lost in his own world. Men. Go figure.
I am wondering if I get GG a present if she will like me better.
And you guys be wonder people getting that many boxes unpacked. We’ve been living here since March and we STILL have 20 boxes left to undo. Too late now, I suppose, since we will be moving again soon.
Maybe we will get on it then. haha. Riiiight.
Momo says:
I’m glad Girlie Girl is finally easing up on you. Guess she had to show you what she thought of you not being there for so long. Thank God for new toys!
She is such a cute (fat) cat. I love all the pictures, but the last one is favorite also.
Good luck on getting everything unpacked, it was wonderful that HB did so much of it. I hate packing and unpacking…basically moving in general.
Squirl says:
I get a little behind in my blog reading and there’s talk about a seeeeeeecret squirrel when I’m not looking. Sheeesh.
I hope it wasn’t too hard for you having Girlie-Girl take a while to warm up to you.
Good luck unpacking.
Victoria Winters says:
Bummer about the not-so-friendly welcome from Girlie Girl!
Glad you kissed a made up in the end.
Glad you’re with your hubby again!!!!!
Girlie-girl says:
Mrrrr-reow?
Did someone say “She” and ‘cute’ in the same sentence? They must be talking about me.
purrrrrr purrrrr purrrrrr
Amber, no toys necessary. Just pet me right there *paws at back of neck* and we’ll get along like tea and chocolate. Oh, and if you wear jeans… i might have to come sit on you. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeans, my faaaaaaaaaaaaaaavorite.
sheryl says:
Danielle, I’m glad you and GG got back together.
It sounds to me like she was actually just a little teensy bit pissed off at you.
My old kitty, Suka, used to act that way if I was away for a weekend!! She would respond to me with a combination of interest and disgust!
