The Girlie-girl and the move
Just a note to let everyone know that I’m plugging along, HB is driving along with the Girlie-girl. AND the BIG NEWS is that she hasn’t gotten sick YET! This has never happened before!
I think that buying a dog crate for her, the size for beagles, because she is waaaaaaaaay bigger than a dachshund, did the trick. It is all wires and is very open. Unlike the carriers that are pretty much solid plastic walls with small openings. Even if it does take up 2/3 of HB’s back seat, not having her get sick is so worth the loss in space.
We put one of her favorite cushions from a footstool in the crate, and covered it with a towel (just in case). And HB tells me that she pretty much lays on it constantly and is doing her version of sleeping.
So, that is very reassuring.
I have pics of the packing and other stuff that I figured I would post, but well, I’ve been migrainey a lot this week, so most of my non-working time has been taken up getting things set aside/packed or sleeping/resting or at least not looking at the computer screen.
more later. um, not sure when. just later.
Updated to add:
a MAP! of HB’s trip. I lurve maps. The more detail the better.

FYI for the geekoids out there, that would be 1375 miles give or take 10 miles.
SeaQueen says:
Good Luck HB! That is a very long journey for a non-car-loving GirlieGirl. Panda, while not a huge fan of the car, still prefers it to flying. She sends GirlieGirl some anti-motion-sickness best wishes on the journey.
Momo says:
Best wishes to HB and GirlieGirl on their trip. Hope you get to feeling better soon, Danielle. We’ve missed you around here lately!
honestyrain says:
ggez, long way for not liking the car. hope it goes well!
LadyBug says:
That is a LOOOOONG way in the car with a kitty. How long will it take him? Surely he’ll be stopping along the way, preferably at a luxury motel, complete with a Kitty Spa?
HB says:
I stopped in Toledo, Ohio for the night.
Right now old fuzzball and I are hanging out on the bed – she’s laying on her towel looking at the window at the dogs that are outside. DOGS! MUST GET THEM! SCRATCH SCRATCH!
Off for some steak

LadyBug says:
Oh! Hi HB! ::waving::
Amber says:
HB,
That looks like a long, long drive.
I am glad to hear that GG is doing alright in the car. I’ve never had a pet that would be good on a drive. Never.
Danielle,
Sooo…when you finally move to Mnnpls, are you going to be driving or flying?
I hope all goes by quickly for you.
I understand about all of the packing and what not. I’m sure we will be here when you do update.
Have a good weekend!

i was looking at the map (as I was brought up with a very map-loving family, i love maps myself) thinking, wow, i wonder how many miles that is…
…and then i saw your geekoid disclaimer on the bottom!!! oh well!!!
hope the rest of the trip goes smoothly for everyone.
Alex says:
oops, i didn’t mean to post that last one anonymously!
Squirl says:
I hope the headaches subside. Good luck on all of the packing. So glad your sweeties are doing okay on their ride so far.
Danielle says:
SeaQueen – the Girlie appreciates Pandora’s well wishes. Unfortunately, she did get sick last night in the hotel (I hear).
Momo – how little do you know that your well wishes for me are particularly appropriate. I seem to have the flu now. And I hope to come by your blog soon.
Honestyrain – thanks for stopping by, since I certainly haven’t been by your blog lately!
Ladybug – 2 days of (approx) 12 hours of driving (with breaks). As he said, he stopped last night in OH. O’s on the end and Hi in the middle, O-Hi-O.
Amber – I will fly when it is my turn to go.
Funny tangent – HB passed my car this morning about 20 miles into Indiana! He saw a car carrier and said “Hey that looks like Danielle’s car.” Looked closer and said “Hey! That IS Danielle’s car!” too funny.
Alex – it looks even cooler as a full size pic, unfortunately, scaling it down made it lose some of the prettiness.
Squirl – thanks for the well wishes too. Yes, it is a relief to hear that they are doing well. I check in every few hours with them and get the Girlie and HB report.
HB says:
Here I am and here I be.
made it in 10.5 hours last night – GG was quite happy to be here – she gave me some feedback around Madison, Wisconsin that she was quite tired of this $%^&@$ng ride. Then she went back to sleep in the afternoon sun.
Closing is tomorrow at 10am. Now it’s time for shopping

I guess you answered my question about Girlie-girl here!
I looooove maps too. My atlas is one of my favorite books.
