The day of the packing
I had hoped to get these posted on the actual day of packing, which was Wednesday. But well, better late than never, right?
The first order of business that day was making sure my car was cleaned out of all goodies (i.e. the stuff from my office at school and CDs) so that it could be hauled away on a car carrier.

As they drove it onto the carrier, I couldn’t help thinking “good thing they are professionals and have lots of practice at this.”

Finally, they got it into position.

We didn’t hang around to watch them secure it or put the other car back on. Instead, we went back to breakfast and preparing for the packers to arrive.
It was strange seeing each room transformed during the day. But it was quite a relief to not be the one doing the transforming.
The guest bedroom was probably one of the most dramatic differences that could be captured in a photo.

I got to my picture taking a bit later than I’d intended, so the main mover/packer had already started on the kitchen. But you can still see the difference between the ‘during’ and ‘after.’

Oh! And since the pic is wee little, you might not have noticed it, but I made sure that the important stuff got packed last.

Had to have tea and chocolate chunk cookies at lunchtime, you know.
I took a bunch of pictures of the living/dining room. I guess because that is the part of the house where I hang out the most, so it seemed particularly strange to see it get dismantled. And that is where a lot of our breakables/collectibles are located.
Notice how the Girlie-girl is in most of the pics.

it just looks so barren to me!
And this final pic, was my attempt to capture an artistic interpretation of moving day.

In addition it is the angle out the bay window that I saw from the couch for about 4 and a half years (minus the moving truck, of course).
I took all pics with Dee-Dee.

Great pictures. Moving is not alot of fun, it’s nice that you have movers to help you handle it.
I’ve always gotten a tiny bit sad and reminiscent when moving, even if it was only down the street.
Hoping time flies until your back with HB and Girlie Girl.

When I was eleven we had a moving company move us from Kentucky to Michigan. Any move I ever made after that was without professional help. Of course the moves were not usually over more than 35 miles. Great shots you got of before/after. Good luck on the whole thing!
Danielle says:
We’ve been fortunate that (counting in my head) 4 of our 5 moves within the past 9 years have been due to job relocation purposes for HB and 4 of our moves have been with people doing the packing as well as the loading. It is a great job benefit, I must say.
This is the first time we’ve moved ‘far enough’ that they would pay for one of our cars to be shipped though. It was odd, but a relief, since my car doesn’t have cruise control.
And yes, Momo, I was definitely feeling kind of sad and thoughtful as we drove away from the house for the last time… drove to the commuter rail for the last time (and went past my church)… took that particular commuter rail ride into town for the last time. Even now, as I walk through the city it feels like I’m trying to drink it all in just a little bit more than usual.

Bye bye MA. Welcome to MN.
Welcome home.

That was simultaneously exciting and sad, Danielle. I know it was bittersweet for you, especially knowing that HB was going ahead of you. But your time alone will be over before you know it, and you’ll be joining HB and Girlie-Girl (and Amber and Closet Metro!) in MN.
Here’s to new beginnings…
Ern says:
Such mixed emotions always go along with moving. Hang in there.
Was the Girlie-girl stressed/depressed/worried? Moving can be so hard on an animal. Hard on the people too, but at least you know what is going on.
Squirl says:
Hope everything’s going well. Miss you.
Amber says:
Blast ended skwerts! I just totally realized that the comment that I had intended on posting never got posted. I came here to read all the other comments and noticed mine was missing! Hrm…
Anyway.
I love having the moving company come and pack and load and haul and unload for you. They are sooo fast and efficient and you have to do NOTHING! It’s nice.
Andy’s company paid to move us here. That definately made our move much more pleasurable.
I can definately see the differences.
I also see that you left out some tea and choc cookies and tortilla chips. You gotta, and I mean, gotta, have the neccessities.
Which reminds me that I need to post the picture I took of the huge peanut butter cup I bought at the Mall of America.
*Sniff*
Moving is so emotional. I hope all is going well for you!
