First roses of the season

On Sunday, I was surprised to see that our rosebush had two mature buds. Here is one of them.

I noticed yesterday that the two buds were starting to open, so I set my alarm early this morning to give myself time to take a few pictures of the first blooms of the season.

Of course, it felt much nicer to snooze in bed a couple of times than get up. Fortunately, I guess (?), today was trash day, which meant I was forced to go around the side of the house where the rose bush is located.

And this is what I saw.

ooooo! grab the camera!

Due to my extra snoozing and the need to hurry and deal with the trash, I ended up being a little rushed taking pictures and I forgot to set the focal length on the flower setting. But they seem to have come out okay anyway.

I am usually not a pink kind of girl, but this hot pink rose bush blooms so many blossoms throughout the summer, that I can’t help but feel affectionate toward it.

um… maybe affectionate isn’t quite the right word.
*pauses while searching for right word*

Um, yeah, creative juices are all dried up. Well, this is what happens when I try to blog in the middle of the week, when I’m tired, right?

Anyway, even with it being pink and all (the previous owners planted this bush) it was a thrill to see it bloom that first summer. It has also been a thrill to see it bloom all of the subsequent summers.

All season long, it will bloom flower after gorgeous flower and I’ll get to cut them and take them into school with me to brighten up my work space.

I took a few more pics when I got home tonight, but the roses were pretty battered from our afternoon rain storm, so I’m glad that I got these this morning.

Oh, and I may regret it later if I run out of “Flowers for Friday” pics, but I thought I’d go ahead and post these today for the following two reasons:

1) Since the first bloom of the season for this bush is so special, it seemed appropriate to go ahead and post them on the actual day it bloomed.

2) This is my gift to all of you, for all of your kind thoughts and well wishes yesterday.

Here is another one from this morning. Can you tell it rained last night too?

And a close-up of the water droplets, which is a bit pixelated, but still interesting and pretty in its own way.

I took all pictures with a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P71.

TT Pic postd, thanks for reminding me.

The last three are my favorites, but the middle one is what I like best. Rain droplets on flowers always get me. So beautiful.

Thanks again for the pics. Always seem to brighten up my day.

The roses are beautiful. I have favorite flower colors, too, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the ones that aren’t yellow/orange/gold. And I think you can have affection for a particular plant. Not sure exactly what the word was for which you were looking, but it works for me.

    HB,

We are looking around the Oakdale/Maplewood/White Bear Lake area for housing. We are also considering areas around Roseville, since that is where Andy works, but we perfer the first three, since that is what we are more familiar with.

Hopefully Danielle will get to see some nice weather when she comes. Yay! Sunny forecast.

    Danielle,

I am beginning to think I jumped to con clusions on my favorite picture. I like the first one the best because the bud and the background kind of remind me of Bird of Paradise. My grandma used to get those on special occasions, so it’s kind of a sentimental reminder.

Those are just lovely, Danielle. Thanks for sharing them. I’m not a pink fan either, but roses are always beautiful, in any color.

Hope you enjoy your visit to Mpls/St. Paul this weekend.

    (Gorgeous shots as usual.)

If you have a little freetime while you’re out here, try and find your way to the Como Park Conservatory. You’ll love the flowers, and admission is only a dollar or two. Bring your camera, and you can stock up on enough “Flowers for Friday” pics for a whole year.
