Can you stand this much cuteness?

Max is a new member of my extended family. Isn’t he the cutest!?

Texas sister welcomed him into her home, oh, about a month ago.

You see, she’d had an english rabbit, Zippy, for 10 years. 10 years is a long, long life for a rabbit.

We all loved Zippy a lot.

For some reason, this is the only pic I could (easily) find of Zippy.

He was a very soft, friendly, lovable rabbit who loved to be petted, especially between his ears. If you were sitting on the floor and he was out hopping around, he’d come up and bonk you on the arm when he wanted to be petted. He also loved to chew, as most rabbits do. And he loved his cheerios for breakfast, a rabbit after my own heart. ;-)

Texas sister has become quite the expert at how to bunny-proof a portion of the house so that a little rabbit fellow can be let out of his cage with proper supervision and not get into too much trouble. So, after a period of time without Zippy, she decided that it was time to look for another bunny friend.

When they were at the pet store, Max is the one who, as Texas sister’s fiance was petting one of the other bunnies, came up and bonked him in the hand to be petted. This was a Good Sign, because it is also what Zippy had done when Texas Sister was trying to decide between rabbits. It also meant he was very friendly and comfortable with people.

Texas sister tells me he is very fast and can be quite tricky to catch.

He doesn’t appear to be one to stand still for long.

She also tells me he is rambunctious and ornery.

Yup, looks full of bunny mischief to me.

At least until he wears himself out.

Whew! Must be tiring running around and investigating, eh Max?

Look at those back feet!

Supposedly, he is going to stay little. Of course, we’ve heard that before with a particular rabbit who ended up being 11 pounds at his heaviest (a.k.a. Zippy).

But maybe he’ll stay little.

Goodness knows he is going to stay cute. I can’t wait to meet him in person.

All pics of Max taken by Texas Sister and adjusted for red-eye by me. I took a digital pic of the print of Zippy (originally taken by Mom).

CUTE! I’m allergic to bunnies, but boy are they cute! How do you keep a bunny in the house? Are they potty trained?

Soooo Cute! This may sound bizarre, but he sort of reminds me of Panda (my kitty). D, you’ll probably get the connection: grey, cute, hint of mischief… plus, Panda has taken to doing that head bonking thing, particularly in the mornings when she thinks I should be getting up :-) Anyway, welcome to Max, he’s a sharp looking fellow and I’m glad Texas Sister has a new buddy.

I realize you’re going to look at that post and go, grey? you think the bunny’s grey? maybe you need your eyes checked…

What I guess I should say is brown with grey hues…

Seaqueen, whew! I was worried about your vision there for a minute. *smirk*

jes joshin. I was following you. As for the kitty wake-up calls, I too am finding that as the sun is rising earlier and earlier a Certain Someone thinks it is time to be up and about.

Victoria, he has a big, big cage with a small tupperware box of pine shavings in one corner of his cage for his litter box. And yes, they can be litter trained. Texas sister lets him out to run around in the morning for a little bit of time and then for a long period of time in the evening. Some people let their rabbits run loose a lot, but due to their interest in chewing… it i usually safest to only have them out of their cage when you can keep an eye on them. All electrical/phone wires have to be covered with really strong (clear) plastic tubing.

Her last rabbit, Zippy, would hop back in his cage when he was tired of being out or if he needed to use his litter box. At this point, I think Max is litter trained well enough to know to go back in his cage if he has to ‘go’ but I’m not sure.

One key point too, is that not all bunnies are as nice as Zippy was and as Max appears to be. She has known people who have had rabbits as pets and were disappointed because the rabbits were not friendly. It probably depends on how much they are handled by humans when they are baby bunnies (and if you pick one out who wants to be petted).

Thanks for the cute story about Max, Danielle. He is definitely a cute and fun handful.

He was litter trained within a week or so and now jumps back in his cage when he has been out for a while to eat, drink and sit in his box. But then, he is back out and running.

Speaking of which…it is time to head upstairs to let him out for a while.

We used to have a rabbit. Ichabod’s brother needed a place for him. We had Dirk (the rabbit) until he died. MIssed him so. He had quite a weird little personality. And Ichabod is usually allergic to pets, but not this one. Rabbits can be really great pets.

Thanks for joining the pep squad over at my blog yesterday/today! :) It really helped!

I used to have a bunny, and we tried and tried to litterbox train her, but she kept leaving little brown surprises all over the house. Apparently our home was too chaotic to housetrain a rabbit.
