Worried
My heart is heavy today.
The boyfriend (almost a husband) of a close friend has been in the hospital since Thursday night. While the tests have revealed what is wrong with him, he seems to be getting worse before getting better. Or at least, I keep praying that the better is just around the bend. He has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and is dealing with complications from an immune suppresing drug he has been on for it.
I’m not sure what else to say. I’m sharing this because I know some of you believe in the power of prayer, so if you’d say a little prayer for “Danielle’s friend S” I’d appreciate it. For those of you who don’t pray, warm thoughts of healing and strength would be great too.

As in mine, too.

I am sorry to hear that there is a down before an up. My mother has switched MS treatments twice over the course of the past few years because of secondary effects. If someone could figure out what the damn disease was, life could be so much easier! Thinking of you and your friends!
Danielle says:
Well, the good news is that the hospital moved S into intensive care. So, he is finally getting better care than he was the last handful of days.
Also, a pulmonary specialist has taken on his case and is really on top of the therapy and treatments that need to be done to clear up his pneumonia and deal with his collapsed lung. This particular specialist also sees a lot of patients with MS. S isn’t out of the woods yet, but my friend is more positive about his outlook now that this doctor is on board. In general it sounds like this specialist could make a world of difference.
Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and prayers.

Thank you, everyone.
I keep thinking I’ll add a comment here when I know more. But well, there just hasn’t been a lot of change in his condition. He actually got worse with a really high fever on part of the day Tuesday (I find out how he is doing a day late usually). They tried giving him an additional drug (antibiotic?) to fight the pneumonia and at last report were contemplating taking him off of his MS immune suppressing drug. But then, he could end up with a really bad exacerbation…
I’ll keep putting updates here in the comments as I know stuff.
Danielle says:
Overall, he is much much better.
The details are that the new antibiotic was given to him i.v. Now, why they weren’t delivering the antibiotic earlier by i.v. is beyond my comprehension. But at least they have been lately and he is tons better because of it.
His chest tube has been removed, and his lung is staying inflated.
So, he appears to be out of the woods for the worse of it. He is being monitored for another day and then the doctors are hoping to get him moved to a rehabilitation hospital where they can really focus on therapy and exercise to get his strength back. And he will continue with breathing exercises too.
All in all, his prospects look good.

Oops…That blank post was supposed to be:
–>sigh of relief<–

I could see what you were trying to say in my publishing platform.
My program was eating up your comment because it resembled html code (and to prevent comment spam, I’ve had to have it set to block code).
Yes, I am sighing for relief too.
I found out this morning that he did indeed get transferred to the rehabilitation hospital over the weekend. His therapy is very extensive; it is from 7-12 and then something like 1-4:30! Cool huh? He is exhausted at the end of a day of therapy. But it is really comprehensive, so he ought to get stronger every day.

So glad your friend is doing better, Danielle.
